IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:  the California Northern Coastal Area 06 of Alcoholics Anonymous, AKA the CNCA, is voting on the below proposed change to the Plain Language Big Book during the Fall assembly on Saturday Nov 1.  We need your input to so our GSR can accurately represent our common voice.    

•  The proposed change is from Appendix II (Spiritual Experience) of the Plain Language Big Book.

  • BACKGROUND:
    The original line, “With few exceptions our members find they have tapped an unsuspected inner resource,” was replaced with, “Most A.A. members discover that a Power greater than themselves has helped them make this change.”

  • PROPOSAL:
    Restore the original phrase "unsuspected inner resource" so the plain language version would read:
    "Most A.A. members discover that an unsuspected inner resource has helped them make this change."

  • REASON FOR THE PROPOSAL
    The change is an inaccurate translation and it creates an obstacle for atheists and agnostics by removing one of the few passages aligned with their belief systems. The proposed version retains the original meaning while adhering to the plain language style.
